'No good without god' the fundamentalists say. No good with god, reality proves.

Speaking of the younger Boston bomber, his aunt said that he was a good boy until about two years ago, when he became very religious and began praying five times a day. So once again we see that belief and morality are not the same thing.

3D graphics

I always wanted to have a go at 3D graphics but gave up just as soon as I started, back in the early 90s. Maya was too complicated and I just couldn't get my head around it, and in those days there was no help on the internet.
Well I've just got Cinema 4D and there are a good few tutorials on youtube. I think this is going to be fun ...
Here's my first attempt at drawing, the animation is still a long way off.

Microscopic cam.

What does stuff look like if you get really-really close up? I bet you would rather not know. Well, here are a couple of round-the-house close-ups:
A teensy tiny piece of biltong next to a coriander seed.

Some coriander seeds.

A spectacle-cleaning flannel.

The Biltong Project update 1

So tonight (Tuesday) the first big piece was ready. Only three days, which is surprising in this cold, wet London weather. This was the regular flavoured one, not the peri-peri or garlic flavour. The verdict: 100% biltong! Nice and soft inside, nice and hard and spicy on the outside.
It feels like a coming-of-age moment for this South African boy, having made my own biltong for the first time. Next one coming soon!

Biltong

The one thing every South African misses when moving to the UK is biltong. You can get it here in London, but you'll pay a small fortune, and it's never just right. So after scouring the Web for information, I went down to the DIY store and got some bits to build my very own biltong maker. I'll admit, it's the most over-engineered dryer ever, but I wanted one that would last a while and get the job done in this cold, humid environment. In South Africa, you can just use a cardboard box with a bulb in it and you'll have biltong in a few days. I didn't want to take any chances with mould or bacteria, so I fitted a bathroom extractor fan to a nice and sterile plastic storage box. Luckily my local Wickes still stocks the outlawed incandescent bulbs, so I bought a couple of 55 Watters and connected a light on the opposite end of the box, and this will hopefully generate a little heat to dry the air a bit. So here's my first attempt — day one of The Biltong Project.
